Culture Club

Ann Ratner founded Bubbles Salons on the principles of education and creativity. Nothing embodies this culture more than the annual Hair Wars runway competition. Stylists across the organization showcase boundary pushing work across three categories – day, evening and fantasy.

After sensing shifts in the professional hair care industry, Ann launched exclusive haircare line Cibu in 2004. Cibu continues to thrive with Bubbles Salons and Salon Cielo stylists at the center of product development.

With a Name Like Bubbles Salons You Gotta Be Tough

How a regular girl from Manchester forged a hair care dynasty

Ann Ratner arrived in Washington DC in 1967 and quickly made her mark in the hair salon world. By 1972 she and ex-husband Dennis Ratner co-founded the value salon chain Hair Cuttery. After their marriage ended, under tremendous emotional pressure and with two small children, Ann took a leap of faith and opened the type of salon she always imagined – Bubbles Salons.

This is the story of her incredible journey as an immigrant, hair stylist, divorced single mom and serial entrepreneur who followed her instincts and never confronted a challenge she didn’t like.

Bubbles Salons annual Hair Wars salon competition, “Heroes and Villains,” is Sunday, September 17. We’ll recap the madcap creativity on Daily Pop! next week.
